EDI Integration

EDI Integration

What is it actually?

EDI integration is the tool through which confidential messages such as orders or invoices can be exchanged automatically through the ERP systems of the business partners.

Once the EDI integration is completed, the companies can communicate with each other using the common EDI language. Many steps are eliminated. Waiting, opening and extracting as would be the case with an order by e-mail, for example, are completely eliminated. This is now done promptly and automatically.

EDI integration is no longer an option: automation is taking on an increasingly important role. Throughput times are getting shorter every year. From order to order fulfillment- complete transparency of all processes is another plus.

What needs to be considered?

First, the transmission protocol and message format to be used must be determined. Messages must be able to be exported from your system and converted into the required EDI message format.  It must also be possible to convert and import from the EDI format to the system’s import format.

5 phases of EDI integration:

  • Define requirements:

Which processes do you want to automate? Who are your EDI partners? Which document formats do you need? What should the technical parameters of your system look like? Before you decide on an EDI integration and select the appropriate solution, this must be defined in advance.

  • Select EDI provider:

Now that you have defined what your requirements are. You can select an EDI provider. Experience and eXpertise should be the benchmark here. What can the EDI provider do? How are the prices? How is the support? The total package must be right.

  • Planning implementation:

The creation of a project plan including priorities and timelines.

  • Technical implementation:

Now transmission channels, protocols and message formats are defined together with your business partners. Organization, monitoring of tests, and parallel operation of EDI and existing processes are now on the agenda.

  • Operation:

Continuous monitoring is required as soon as your system is in operation. This will ensure that any errors that may occur do not get out of hand. Appropriate updates and upgrades may be required if your requirements change. You would like to outsource this completely? Pranke will do it for you as part of the eXtended EDI service.
